Day 161 of 365: El Roi – Part 1

The God Who Sees / The God Who Sees Me

Greetings, Precious Family. May the Peace of the Lord be with you always

Family, the Devotional this evening is very special for multiple reasons. The first reason is because God was only called by this name one time in the Bible in Genesis 16:13 by Hagar. Let’s go there now…

Genesis 16:13
New International Version

13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen[a] the One who sees me.”

Bereshis 16:13
Orthodox Jewish Bible

13 And she called the Shem of Hashem Who spoke unto her, El Roi (G-d Who Sees); for she said, Have I also here seen after Him that seeth me?

In case you are not familar with this story, I strongly encourage you to read ALL of Chapter 16. Here is the shortened 2026 version. Clearing my throat….

Sarai (Sarah) and Abram (Abraham) were husband and wife. Sarai was not able to get pregnant, no matter how many times her and Abram tried. In order for her to give Abram the chance to have children, Sarai had the idea to have her maiden servant Hagar sleep with Abram (remember this is Sarai’s idea – NOT GOD’s).

Hagar immediately got pregnant and Sarai began to get mad and treat Hagar very poorly, even though this was ALL HER IDEA!!!

Hagar is treated so poorly by Sarai  that she runs away into the desert to get away from all the drama. So imagine how bad it had to be if you were pregnant but you chose the desert as your home just to have some peace. (That will Preach)

Okay, now I believe you should have a good picture of what is taking place. Now let’s read why El Roi is important:

Genesis 16:7-15
New International Version

7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. 8 And he said, “Hagar, slave of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?”

“I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered.

9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” 10 The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.”

11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:

You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.
You shall name him Ishmael,[a]
for the Lord has heard of your misery.
12 He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
    and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
    toward[b] all his brothers.”

13 She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen[c] the One who sees me.” 14 That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi[d]; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

15 So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.

I know for many of us women, if we heard God say to go back to a place where we just ran away from, we would probably be rebuking the devil and not listen. But Hagar did listen and history would be impacted greatly and it still is today.

The second reason why this passage is so important is because even when you think no one cares and no one sees your pain, God sees it all and He cares.

How special Hagar must have felt. One moment she was suffering terribly at the hands of Sarai and the next moment she is being tended to by an angle of the Lord.

Im going to stop here this evening because I have a lot more to say….

Stay tuned until tomorrow for Part 2.

I want to leave you with this. God sees everything that you are going through. Your obedience is not in vain. Your living is not in vain. You MATTER!!!!

Day 127 of 365: Meeting God in the Middle of the Mind – Pt. 5

God is Not Asking You to Fight Your Mind Alone

Greetings, Precious Family:

May the Peace of the Lord be with you.

Family, how did five days go by so fast? Somehow, we are already here at Part 5 of Meeting God in the Middle of the Mind.

Last night, we talked about When Your Mind Won’t Slow Down. We talked about those moments when the thoughts keep moving long after the day is over. The moments when your body is exhausted, but your mind keeps replaying conversations, responsibilities, fears, possibilities, and “what ifs.”

Tonight, I want to close this series with something that I ALWAYS want you to remember:

God is not asking you to fight your mind alone.

For so many years, people of faith have quietly carried mental and emotional exhaustion while smiling on the outside. We have prayed while overwhelmed. Worshipped while anxious. Encouraged others while secretly trying to hold ourselves together.

But one thing I have learned is this:

God does not shame us for being human.

The God we serve understands the complexity of the mind because He created it. He understands what stress does to the body. He understands emotional fatigue. He understands grief, fear, uncertainty, trauma, and the silent weight people carry every single day. And somehow, even knowing all of that, He still meets us with compassion.

Sometimes healing looks miraculous and immediate. Sometimes healing looks like counseling. Sometimes healing looks like rest.
Sometimes healing looks like setting boundaries. Sometimes healing looks like medication. Sometimes healing looks like learning how to breathe again.

And sometimes healing simply looks like surviving the day without giving up. That matters too.

I think one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is permission to stop pretending we are “fine” when we are drowning internally. God can handle the truth. He is not intimidated by our honesty. The beautiful thing about God is that He often meets us right in the middle of the mess — not after we have cleaned everything up.

He sits with us in the racing thoughts.
He sits with us in the uncertainty.
He sits with us in the exhaustion.
He sits with us in the healing process.

And little by little, He reminds us that peace is not always the absence of noise. Sometimes peace is simply the awareness that we are not alone inside of it. Praise Jehovah!!!!

Scripture Passage of the Day

Isaiah 26:3
Living Bible

3 He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord!

Let Us Pray

Sweet Spirit of the Living God, thank You for walking with us through every part of this journey. Thank You for being present in the middle of our thoughts, our fears, our exhaustion, and even the things we struggle to explain.

When our minds feel heavy, remind us that we do not have to carry everything alone. Teach us how to rest without guilt. Teach us how to be honest without shame. Teach us how to receive Your peace in ways that are real, steady, and healing.

Help us to stop measuring strength by how much pain we can hide. Give us the courage to seek support when we need it, to slow down when life becomes overwhelming, and to trust that You are still with us even on the difficult days.

Tonight, let Your presence settle over every anxious thought and every weary heart reading these words. Let peace gently find us again. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayers.

And we let it be…And so it is…

Amen, Amen, and Amen

January 2026

Good morning, Precious Family:

May the Peace of the Lord be with you always.

If you remember, on our last couple of devotional letters, I shared that after almost 10 years of writing Sacred Journey Devotional Blog, there will be a change coming. It will not be an ending but instead a transformation.

Many of you know that I began this Blog to journal my spiritual journey. I wanted to share my life as a Christian, just in case other people were going through some of the things I was facing.

You are NOT ALONE.

Our spiritual journey is never an easy or  straight road, but instead, it is filled with highs and lows and all the places in between.

I know that my blog is not for everyone, but for those who don’t want to walk this earthly spiritual journey alone, feel free to walk with me. I honor your presence on the path.

So what is coming in January 2026???

Beginning January 1, 2026, the daily devotional prayer series will begin. 2026 will have a devotional prayer every day of the week!  At the end of 2026, I hope to publish the daily devotional prayers we have shared.

I hope you are as excited as I am. I’m looking forward to what God is doing. Let me know if you are as excited as I am. I would love to hear from you.

I will still be writing throughout the rest of 2025, but I wanted to share the news with you about 2026.

Please keep me in your prayers of protection and peace.

Perfected By Grace

Greetings Family,

I heard a song by Smokie Norful a couple of weeks ago. The song went straight to my pain. When I tell you that I was having a bad that day, it would be an understatement. I was questioning so many things. I needed reassurance, from God, that I was going in the right direction.

I was driving home from work, the song “I Still Have You” came on. In that moment, God was telling me that he knows my heart and my desire is to please Him. Some days, it feels like so many things are taking my time, and I’m running from one task to another.

I remember, when I was younger, I would spend hours reading the Word, singing and worshipping God. I would dance before Him and then I would feel the Holy Spirit’s presence enter the room. I would instantly fall to the ground and bow or lay prostrate.

Sometimes, I miss my life when it was just me and God. However, I know that my time with God has been preparing me for my life now.

Scriptures of Grace…

Ephesians 2:8-9

New King James Version

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

I pray that this song, by Pastor Smokie Norful, blesses you as much or more than it blessed me.

Song of Hope...

I love you all with the amazing and everlasting love of our Lord, Savior, and Way Shower, Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen.

Your sister,

Rev. Marcia Davis
