Day 124 of 365: Meeting God In the Middle of the Mind – Part 2

Greetings, Precious Family:

May the Peace of the Lord be with you.

Family, yesterday, we began to open the conversation about faith and mental health and how they are not separate, but deeply connected.

Today, I want to sit with something many of us experience, but don’t always understand.
The way our minds can hold onto thoughts.
Not just in passing but in patterns.

Have you ever noticed how one thought can show up and then stay longer than you expected? How it can repeat itself, grow louder, or begin to shape the way you feel?

A single worry can turn into many. A passing thought can become something that feels constant. And before you know it, your mind feels full, even when you’re trying to focus on something else.

And if we’re not careful, we can begin to believe that every thought we have is true.
But here is something I am learning, both personally and through what I’ve studied:

Not every thought that enters your mind belongs to you.

Not every thought deserves your agreement.
And not every thought reflects truth. Some thoughts are shaped by fear. Some are shaped by past experiences. Some are simply patterns your mind has learned over time.

And this is where it becomes so important not to condemn ourselves for what we think, but to become aware of it. Because awareness creates space. Space to pause. Space to question. Space to choose what we hold onto  and what we release.

The Bible tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. That means transformation doesn’t happen all at once.
It happens as we begin to recognize what’s happening within us and invite God into that process. Not to shame us for our thoughts but to gently guide us toward truth.

So today, instead of trying to control every thought that comes, maybe the invitation is simply this:

Pay attention. Notice what’s been repeating. Notice what feels heavy. Notice what thoughts have been shaping your emotions. Not with judgment but with curiosity.

Because the more we become aware, the more we begin to see where God wants to meet us. Right there. In the middle of our thoughts.

And in the middle of it all.
God is still here.

Scripture Passage of the Day

2 Corinthians 10:3-6
New King James Version

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Let Us Pray

Sweet Spirit of the Living God, thank you for always being so close. In the moments when my thoughts sometimes try to get the best of me, I remember to close my eyes in the silence, between the words in my head, and I call out to you. I say out loud, “Peace be still.”

In that very moment, I am reminded that I know how to find the breath. I am reminded that I am not alone. I am reminded that you are always with me. You are Jehovah Shalom. You are my Peace, Lord.

And we let it be…And so it is…

Amen, Amen, and Amen

Day 48 of 365: Peace, Be Still

Greetings, Precious Family:

May the Peace of the Lord be with you.

Family, sometimes I find myself in situations where there is no handbook or directions to go by in order to make a tough decision. My only barometer is the peace I feel in my spirit.

The only time I know that I have made the correct decision is when the Peace of God settles in my soul.

What is it about the peace of God? Why is it such a powerful force?

In the fourth chapter of the Gospel of Mark is the account of Jesus calming the wind and the sea just by saying these three simple words..”Peace…Be….Still”.

Scripture Passage of the Day

Mark 4:37-39
New King James Version
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Let Us Pray

Spirit of the Living God, thank you for allowing your peace to be our quiet place. It is your peace and presence that always assures us that you are with us, no matter what storms or kaos we may be facing. All we have to do is stand firm in our faith, knowing that you are always here. In your name we pray.

And we let it be…And so it is…

Amen, Amen, and Amen

When Life is Lifing…

Greetings, Precious Family:

I pray this week’s letter finds you abiding in the perfect peace of our Lord. The same peace that calmed the storm, just by Jesus speaking to it by saying, “Peace, Be still.”

One thing that stays consistently true is that life can and does throw us curve balls. The term people are using now is, “Life be lifing.” Which essentially means that they have faced some challenges and hurdles, but they are still standing. Whenever I hear someone say that, I say a quiet “Amen” in agreement.

Right now, I am facing a very LOUD ticking clock to find a site to work at in order to complete my Clinical Mental Counseling requirements for Masters degree. This part of my educational journey has been so difficult. I have to have my site paperwork in by October 13th. The site I was going to work with changed their minds last minute, and now I have only a month to find a new site.

I’m trying to stay focused and stand on the peace of God that tells me it’s going to be ok. Please be in prayer that I would connect with the right organization in order to fulfill my graduation requirements of three semesters of Practicum and Internship for a total of 700 hours.

If I had not seen God’s provision and faithfulness before, I would be worried, but I have personally seen God come through for me time and time again. I know God to be a promise keeper.

So, I speak out into the atmosphere and say this:

“I trust you, Lord. Allow the right company to be illuminated in my spirit so that I will know it is the place you have chosen just for me. Allow me to have favor in their eyes. I rebuke any stumbling blocks, or traps, set by the enemy I WILL be still and know that you are in complete control and you are right here with me, Amen.”

Scriptures of Peace

Mark 4:35-41

Modern English Version

The Calming of a Storm

35 That same day, when the evening came, He said to them, “Let us go cross to the other side.” 36 When they had sent the crowd away, they took Him in the boat just as He was. There were also other little boats with Him. 37 A great wind storm arose, and the waves splashed into the boat, so that it was now filling the boat. 38 He was in the stern asleep on a pillow. They woke Him and said, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

39 He rose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” Then the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

40 He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is that you have no faith?”

41 They feared greatly and said to one another, “What kind of Man is He, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”

Family, yes, life can throw us some serious curve balls. Life is lifing right now, but I stand on one thing my mother always tells me, “Remember, Marcia, we don’t serve no weak God.” This is the reminder I have for all of us. Don’t look at the storm. Focus on God. It is through us standing in the power of Jesus that we can rebuke the wind and speak to our storm by saying, “Peace, be still.”

I love you all with the amazing and everlasting love of Jesus Christ, who is our Savior, Redeemer, and Lord.
